Chutzpah Girls

In January 2024, I was approached quite randomly by Julie Silverstein, a writer and publisher in Israel asking if she could include my flamenco story in an upcoming book called 'Chutzpah Girls'?

Me? I wondered what story they wanted to tell and why me!?

Chutzpah Girls is 100 tales about daring Jewish Women. Okay...

Julie and her co-writier Tami Scholssberg, were keen to include my story about how 'flamenco found me', which was featured in the Australian Jewish News in November 2020. They wanted me to share how I discovered my Sephardi (Spanish Jewish) roots through dancing flamenco.

Serendipitously, a few months later, I was fortunate to receive a fellowship to undertake research in Spain, to explore the connections between Sephardim and Flamenco. You can read more on my next blog.

So alongside ninety-nine amazing individual women from the past to present day, I was thrilled to share my story and an image for their artist to draw inspiration.

The purpose is to inspire the next generations of Jewish girls to be curious about their stories, their heritage, their connection to something greater than themselves and exploring it from a place of excitement rather than duty.

Chutzpah Girls is now published and on sale in Israel and the US. Australia is now - January 2025.

Thank you to the wonderful Julie and Tami for this special invitation to be included. Your incredible deep dive research is almost a prophecy of what is to come. What an honour.
